Live the Dream - How to get started
'Live The Dream' is a term which in commonly used yet very rarely achieved. Everyone has an image of what they would be doing when they finally experience the true reality of Living the dream.
Whilst the dreaming part is not so hard, but doing something about it is where most people fall short.
An important man once said :
"there are some people who are happy to dig a hole for someone else, but you will only get rich if you pay someone to dig a hole for you'
As with most important men, I can't really tell you what the hole has got to do with playing online poker but I do know that if your dream is playing professional poker or at least making a profit from playing online poker you have come to the right place.
So here is how you can live the dream in Poker.
First you need to learn the game. Depending on your current level you should read our how to play downloads (I have written the rules of all the main game variations - Texas Hold'em, Omaha, Stud and Draw) I suggest that you learn Texas Hold'em first as it is th e most popualr and more available to new players.
Once you feel you have a grasp of the basic poker rules, the best thing to do is give it a go. At first you will have a small amount of bankroll so you should either play through an online portal site such as LTDPoker who give new players up to $500 free no deposit bankroll. Then avoid playing on cash game sit n go's you will quickly lose your money and will probably not go back to the game again. The best thing is to find an online Poker freeroll tournament that has the fewest number of players in it. again if you play through a portal site such as LTDPoker regularly holds exclusive freeroll tournaments for their players at top rated online poker sites.
Good sites to play on are Party Poker, Paddy Power and Betfair as they have easy to dowload poker software and simple graphic.
Once you have practiced you need to work on your poker strategy and we have a number of articles that can help you on these stages.
Also don't forget to engage in the online poker community, look at forums, blogs and news feeds to increase your knowledge of the best online poker sites to play on and the big prize online poker tournaments you can qualify to for as little as a couple of dollars. Sites on the big networks such as Bwin Poker and Mansion Poker hold daily qualifiers for tournaments worth Millions of Dollars!
Remeber if you pay $2 to buy into a qualifying satelitte, you have a better probability of winning the World Series of Poker than if you buy a lottery ticket. Plus even if you don't win the WSOP you would have earnt some winnings on your way.
